The Marriage of Figaro
by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
The characters we loved in The Barber of Seville all grown up, with grown up problems that have to be resolved in one crazy day. Throw in a teenager with a major crush, a tipsy gardener, and schemers and dreamers looking for love and you have one of Mozart's finest and funniest operas!

Considered revolutionary - both musically and politically - this lively romantic comedy begins with Figaro and Susanna preparing for their wedding night, not realizing how many people they'll have to maneuver around in order to fall into each other's arms! Filled with one breathtaking aria after another, this is Mozart at his most moving. Another revolutionary concept is The Dallas Opera's FLEX subscription package: three nights, three shows, your choice! Call 214-443-1000 or click here to buy online.

International Cast Highlights
Daniel Okulitch - Figaro

Daniel Okulitch’s signature roles show a dedication to both old and new works, including the title roles in Don Giovanni and The Marriage of Figaro, as well as Joseph DeRocher in Heggie’s Dead Man Walking and Olin Blitch in Floyd’s Susannah. He recently created the title role in Howard Shore’s The Fly, conducted by Placido Domingo and directed by David Cronenberg in Paris and Los Angeles.
Lyubov Petrova - Susanna

Lyubov Petrova made her hugely successful Metropolitan Opera debut in 2001 as Zerbinetta in Ariadne auf Naxos and has reprised that role for The Dallas Opera. Don’t miss this sensational singing actress’ very first Susanna in Mozart’s timeless comedy The Marriage of Figaro.
Michael Todd Simpson - Count Almaviva

Michael Todd Simpson was a smoldering lover in our most recent production of Pagliacci and was also seen as the Herald in our landmark production of Lohengrin. He has recently made debuts with Florida Grand Opera, New York City Opera and Opera Australia. Don’t miss this rising star as he plays the cheating scoundrel Count Almaviva.
Susanna Phillips* - Countess Almaviva

Susanna Phillips has attracted special recognition for a voice of striking beauty and sophistication. In the banner year of 2005, she was the winner of four of the world’s leading vocal competitions. We are sure you will think she is a winner too. She just sang Countess Almaviva for the first time in a new production of The Marriage of Figaro at Santa Fe Opera this past summer.

Where have I heard THAT before?
The choices are endless! Most recently, excerpts from The Marriage of Figaro were heard in "Waitress" (2007), "All the King's Men" (2006), "Prime" (2005), "Wedding Crashers" (2005) and "Matchstick Men" (2003).

Conversation Starters:
The play, The Marriage of Figaro, was the greatest theatrical success of the 18th century. After censors delayed the premiere for years, it ran for 68 consecutive performances and raked in gross receipts of 347,000 livres (French for "a sizeable fortune"). Its author, Pierre-Augustin Caron de Beaumarchais, had earlier convinced the French monarchy to actively support the American Revolution, making him an "honorary Founding Father."

Did you know?
You can't visit the graves of either the composer or the librettist. Lorenzo Da Ponte's grave is somewhere under the skyscrapers of New York City, Mozart was buried in a now-lost common grave on the outskirts of Vienna. A gravedigger claimed to mark the site and later retrieved a skull which today resides in the Salzburg Mozarteum.
