Opera Is Not "Musical Spinach"
We’ve said it, time and again: opera is not “musical spinach.” Yes, it’s nutritious, substantial even, but you don’t have to hold your nose and swallow. Opera is consistently entertaining, both onstage and off, and occasionally, it’s downright outrageous. Need proof? Check out these Fun Facts.

Where have I heard THAT before?
In Billy Wilder’s 1950 classic “Sunset Boulevard” starring Gloria Swanson as the aging starlet, Norma Desmond, the “Dance of The Seven Veils” is featured. It’s also seen in “Black Widow” (1954) starring Ginger Rogers.

Conversation Starters:
When Salome opened at the Met in New York City in 1905, there was such a public outcry about the passionate subject matter and Wilde’s “immoral” behavior that the opera closed after just one performance.

Did you know?
During the “Dance of The Seven Veils,” most sopranos opt to wear a body stocking, but not American soprano Maria Ewing. During the 1990s productions of Salome in London and San Francisco, she performed completely nude under her seventh veil. An opera buff, indeed!
