Opera In a Box: Follow Your Dreams
Educational Tour for Schools (Grades 3-12) and Organizations -
Imagination is the means by which we blend the mechanics of opera with facts and ideas about a singer’s life and his or her discovery of their love for music and how that passion eventually leads the singer on a journey to the world of opera. Singers will guide the audience through an autobiographical portrait which depicts the order of musical events in their life that led to a career in opera. The performers will use suitcases and artist tool kits containing equipment, props, costumes, and other materials to weave their life’s story into a scene from standard or contemporary repertoire. All songs will be performed in English. Performances will begin Oct. 1, 2007 through Nov. 16,2007. The cost per performance is $350 for audiences up to 150 in size.

Marian Anderson: Keep on Singing

For grades 4-12 -
This program depicts the extraordinary life of Marian Anderson, one of the greatest contraltos of all time. This amazing story of perseverance, tolerance, determination and courage will inspire students to pursue their own dreams.

“I have never been able to analyze the qualities that the audience contributes to a performance. The most important, I think, are sympathy, open-mindedness, expectancy, faith, and a certain support to your effort. “I know that my career could not have been what it is without all these things, which have come from many people. The knowledge of the feelings other people have expended on me has kept me going when times were hard. That knowledge has been a responsibility, a challenge, and an inspiration. It has been the path to development and growth. The faith and confidence of others in me have been like shining, guiding stars.”
-Marian Anderson

2007-2008 program dates to be determined.
