Through a series of class sessions, high school students are introduced to opera as an art form and receive a behind-the-scenes look at the many aspects of bringing an opera production to the stage. Students study the season's operas in depth and attend performances or final dress rehearsals of the season’s operas. The entire program has been underwritten by The Dallas Opera and its patrons, so there is no cost to the students selected.
Students are required to have a strong interest in an opera career and be able to attend all scheduled sessions. Candidates must be nominated by their high school music teachers. Nominations are limited to two per teacher. A class of 15-20 students from the pool of teacher nominations is selected each season by the Opera Scholars committee.
Up to 2 nominations per music teacher will be accepted each fall for the current season. For more information conact the education department or call 214.443.1082. |
