HIGH FIVES, AMICI DI OPERA!
By Shelby Covington

Male, early thirties, single, living in uptown, owns a Yellow Lab...has tickets to the Opera? This wouldn’t seem like your average, everyday Opera patron - especially not the stereotype we expect in Dallas. But it was this growing shift in patron demographics that prompted us to launch Amici di Opera, The Dallas Opera’s Young Professional Group, in October of 2004. This fall, we are celebrating the gala opening of our 5th successful Amici season - and we couldn’t have asked for a better way to heighten that sense of anticipation than with a move into a brand new home, The Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House at the Dallas Center for the Performing Arts.

Amici di Opera is a wonderful program which has grown every year, as people line up for the outstanding benefits and networking opportunities. However, this year promises to leave every previous Amici season in the shade! Amici’s loyal membership will provide a firm foundation as we prepare for our move to our new home in the Dallas Arts District, where we are hoping to be able to introduce the opera to even more Young Professionals in the downtown/uptown areas. It is our goal to get them excited about opera, and then, get them involved. It’s no secret to any of us that opera is fun, romantic, passionate, and energizing; an art form that can keep you on the edge of your seat like a great football game. Our goal, through Amici, is to let the under-40 crowd know that opera is thrilling, engaging, approachable, enjoyable and affordable.

Our new opera house is nearly completed, so, now we’ll turn our attention to building something equally important—our next generation of patrons.
