The Dallas Opera Guild sponsors a free competition each spring to provide young Texas artists with financial support to pursue their opera careers. The Vocal Competition is open to the public and invitations will go out to the opera family next week. The 2006 Competition awarded $16,000 to five talented young singers. Many applications have been received for this year's Competition. Each year the prize money is raised by the Guild through generous contributions from our members and Vocal Competition patrons. For several years, the second prize has been generously provided by Connie Kelmow and third by Bayne Blankenship in memory of his wife Pat who was a Guild member and great supporter of young singers. The Guild deeply appreciates the support of all of you who have generously underwritten this important project each year. A number of our former winners and contestants have gone on to have important careers in opera; and our first "Young Artist in Residence", Ava Pine is appearing in four of our productions this season, and was one of the favorite contestants in last year's Competition.

Each year the DOGVC has been held in honor or memory of special Guild members, and this year we are pleased to honor former Guild Presidents Sandra and Bill Sanderson. They have been valuable supporters of TDO in many capacities through the years. For the past several years Sandra has lead Guild trips to great performances in other exciting venues and remarkable opera houses, worldwide.

Contributions to the Vocal Competition may be made to the Guild by contacting us at the opera office: 214-443-1040. Contributions will be noted in the Competition program and may be designated as gifts in honor of someone or in memory of a loved one.
