As the summer heat peaks, our intrepid music director is still “hanging 10” in performances across Europe. This month, Graeme is conducting at the Casa di Musica in Porto, Portugal (designed by Rem Koolhaus). The program includes Schumann’s Third Symphony and Violin Concerto as well as Kontraste by Portuguese composer Joao Rafael. Maestro Jenkins will also conduct Poulenc’s Stabat Mater and Haydn’s Paukenmesse at the Dartington International Summer School. In his down-time, Graeme will be revising Bluebeard’s Castle for our celebration in January while preparing for concerts in Monte Carlo and Helsinki, Finland. It’s been hot overseas, we are told, and our music director is hoping to find a day or two to slip into the surf off the coast of Cornwall before returning to Dallas to begin the new season. | |
