City leaders join opera for end of year celebration!

The Inner Circle of The Dallas Opera, consisting of dedicated patrons and vital contributors to the annual campaign which helped push The Dallas Opera "into the black" for the first time in years, convened for an especially gleeful end-of-year celebration on the evening of June 9th, co-hosted by The Residences at The Ritz Carlton, Dallas, and Ellen Terry Realtors.

The celebration of an extraordinarily successful end-of-fiscal year, in which The Dallas Opera eliminated its accumulated deficit, was simply too big for a single location. Party-goers enjoyed exceptional food and drink, representative of the most famous opera houses in the world, at both The Hotel Crescent Court and the Sales Offices of The Residences at The Ritz Carlton, Dallas.

Highlights of the menu included a pasta bar "a La Scala," caviar and vodka at the Kirov Opera in Russia, Champagne and cheeses at the Paris Opera House, and barbeque at the new Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House (breaking ground later this year).

Guests heard glowing remarks from Dallas Mayor Laura Miller, City Councilwoman Angela Hunt and our own General Director, Karen Stone.  They were also invited to tour the Sales Offices of The Ritz for dessert and wine pairings.

A cool and fizzy start to a busy summer at The Dallas Opera!

There's an old adage that "Time is of the essence."

It seems, in this production of Ariadne auf Naxos, to be particularly apt.  A conversation took place this past May between John Lloyd Davies, stage director of The Dallas Opera's upcoming "Ariadne auf Naxos," premiering in January of 2006, and Associate Director of Marketing Suzanne Calvin. See what John had to say:

Jonathan Pell's Summer Movie Picks

Nothing lifts your spirits during the hot summer weekends of July and August like great music or a great movie.  When we can combine the two, it's doubly delicious!  Here is a trio of my personal favorites.

Spotlight on The Dallas Leadership Banking Partnership:

In 2002, seven financial institutions (Bank One, JP Morgan Chase Bank, Bank of Texas, Northern Trust Bank, Compass Bank, Washington Mutual Bank and Frost National Bank) formed a consortium under the auspices of the Dallas Center for the Performing Arts Foundation to support the construction of the Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House and the Dee and Charles Wyly Theater and the two companies that would occupy these buildings.  Together, they made a $1.2 million pledge over five years, and this generous and insightful gift to the Opera has provided a firm foundation for The Dallas Opera's annual operating budget for the past four seasons.
