The Dallas Opera is committed to bringing quality arts educational programs to students throughout North Texas. As Director of Community Outreach, I am extremely proud that in tough economic times, TDO has chosen to invest in the expansion of its educational program and increase the number of opportunities for students to experience opera by 70% this season. In addition, we were able to drastically reduce the cost of tickets to our student performances.

As TDO is launching many new programs this season, you are a critical partner for us. We look forward to your feedback so that TDO can continually improve its programming to best serve the students’ needs.

TDO Professional Development

All Dallas Opera Student Education Programs are supported by TEKS-aligned curriculum materials and comprehensive teacher training. TDO provides teachers with all the tools they need to take the opera experience beyond the stage and into the classroom.

For your convenience, TDO is offering three different Professional Development Training Sessions in September 2011. These sessions will broaden your knowledge of opera as an art form, the operas featured in the upcoming TDO season and an overview of the curriculum materials provided by TDO to support your students’ attendance of the opera.

You can reserve your seat at one of the Professional Development Sessions while you are registering your students for one of the TDO student programs.

Classroom Materials

TDO has a team of curriculum writers who build lessons and activities in five subjects for students from 3rd grade to high school. Since opera encompasses much more than just music, TDO offers curriculum materials in Language Arts, Social Studies, Math and Visual Arts in addition to Music. In addition, TDO offers a selection of video and audio excerpts that teachers can incorporate into their lesson plans.

All curriculum materials are available for download directly from our website.

TDO also provides comprehensive teacher training. Be sure to sign up for one of the Professional Development Sessions while you are registering your students for one of the TDO student programs.
