Thanks for visiting us at The Dallas Opera! Here you will be able to expand young minds with fun and educational resources directly related to opera and classical music.

TEACHER'S RESOURCES

The Dallas Opera offers exceptional educational opportunities for students of all ages. Programs offered include School Performances, Docent training, Touring Opera, Arts Night at the Opera, Opera Scholars, and an interactive website for teachers and students. Curriculum content and training have been tailored so that they are more accessible and better meet teacher needs.

Statistics show that students involved in fine arts programs:
• Score higher on verbal and math portions of tests
• Have improved cognitive and language skills
• Increase their potential for self-discovery
• Increase their socialization and problem-solving skills
• Have a better understanding of their world
• Stay in school longer

EDUCATION PROGRAMS

Grades K-8th

Every year approximately 11,000 Dallas-area elementary and middle school students and teachers (grades 3-8) from public, private, and home schools attend an opera selected from the regular season of The Dallas Opera. The Dallas Opera has a variety of ways to introduce your students to the opera.

Grades 9-12th

Each school year, high school students experience opera through Arts Night at the Opera and learning opportunities like Opera Scholars. These programs allow students to explore career opportunities in opera.

OPERA TOURS

Opera In a Box: Follow Your Dreams

"Opera In a Box" Performers

Anything is possible when you pursue your goals in life. Graduate Music students from SMU offer personal stories to explain their decisions to pursue careers in opera. The performers use props, costumes, and other materials as they weave their stories into scenes using standard or contemporary opera repertoire sung in English. This program is an excellent introduction to opera for students and adults. Performances may be booked from October 5, 2009 through November 20, 2009. The cost per performance is $350 for audiences up to 150 in size.

Marian Anderson: Keep on Singing, with Kristian Roberts

Marian Anderson

Marian Anderson: Keep on Singing, with Kristian Roberts, depicts the extraordinary life of Marian Anderson, one of the greatest contraltos of all time. This amazing story of perseverance, tolerance, determination and courage will inspire students to pursue their own dreams.

The program will be offered from January 18, 2010 though February 26, 2010 and is suitable for Black History Month activities. The cost per performance is $350 for audiences up to 150 in size. To request more information please contact the Education Department at 214-443-1082.
