The Guild was established to support and promote The Dallas Opera through outreach, education, fundraising and service, and continues to contribute to its growth today as one of the contry's finest opera companies. As we look forward to the opening of the Margo and Bill Winspear Opera House in the Dallas Center for the Performing Arts in fall of 2009, now is a great time to get involved! The Dallas Opera Guild invites everyone in The Dallas Opera family to join the Guild and participate in its numerous programs listed below:
Opera Insights
Opera Insights is a lively panel discussion featuring the singers, conductor, and artistic staff of upcoming TDO operas, moderated by TDO’s Artistic Director, Jonathan Pell. This popular program is held at 4 PM the Sunday prior to each opening night at the UT Southwestern Medical Center’s Gooch Auditorium. Free to Guild members, this educational program alone is worth the price of Guild membership.Vocal Competition
The Dallas Opera Guild Vocal Competition is an event not to be missed on March 20, 2010. Talented young Texas singers compete for prestige and financial support to pursue their operatic careers. The Competition is free and open to the public during the afternoon semifinals and the evening finals. Come and vote for your audience favorite – “The People’s Choice Award”.
Adopt An Artist
Adopt an Artist is a program that welcomes international stars to our community. This much appreciated program pairs a Guild host for visiting artists to assure that their Dallas Opera experience and brief sojourn in our city is enjoyable. Hosts pick up the artists when they arrive and provide any needed help during their stay.
Guild Boutique
The Dallas Opera Guild Boutique, located in the lobby area of Fair Park Music Hall, features a beautiful array of carefully chosen merchandise to please opera-going patrons. Staffed and operated by Guild members, it is our most important fundraiser, which benefits The Dallas Opera and its education mission. The School Performance Program
The School Performance Program introduces 3rd through 8th grade students to a fully staged opera at Music Hall. These performances allow some 12,000 North Texas area students to attend. Guild volunteers serve as docents and help to seat the school groups. This is only one example of the many ways the Guild supports TDO’s Education Department.Opera Trips
The Guild also plans Opera Trips to American, Canadian and European cities to attend opera and special concerts as well as touring cultural sites. Locally, The Guild hosts a variety of special educational programs and fun events for members throughout the year. Our Guilded Notes Newsletter and frequent mailings provide Guild members with news and information on upcoming activities and events.
