Launching a New Era of Opera in Dallas
Opening Festivities of the Winspear Opera House
Created by a visionary group of leaders in 1957, The Dallas Opera takes center stage again with a new building and modern vision of excellence that embodies tradition hand-in-hand with innovation. Throughout 2009, the Opera will celebrate its illustrious tenure at the Music Hall in Fair Park and begin a new era in the Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House. Three milestone events will mark this dramatic transition.

Bravissimo! Celebration of an Era
Saturday, March 14, 2009

An elegant night club redolent of the era when The Dallas Opera was conceived 52 years ago follows the historic final performance in Fair Park. Rossini’s The Italian Girl in Algiers was the very first production of The Dallas Opera and, in a nod to history, is also this season’s final production. Heralding a new era of opera in the Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House, this celebration in a pavilion outside the Music Hall will feature a buffet supper, live music, and the principal singers from the evening’s performance. Presented by AT&T, this black-tie event honors philanthropists Phyllis and Tom McCasland is chaired by Ms. Emilynn Wilson.

Winspear Opera House Opening Night Performance and Dinner
Friday, October 23, 2009

The curtain will open on a new production of Verdi’s Otello with world-renowned dramatic tenor Clifton Forbis. The production will showcase the state-of-the art acoustics and technology which distinguish the Winspear from all other opera houses in United States. This highly sought-out event will attract national and international press and be attended by dignitaries, major philanthropists, corporate executives and civic leaders and be limited by its 2,200 seating capacity. From the floating staircase to the three-story glass walls, the Winspear will glitter with attendees of the elegant post-performance dinner.

To provide all opera patrons the opportunity to toast the new era of opera in Dallas, a Champagne Dessert Celebration will follow each of the remaining five Otello performances. The cast will mingle with the guests as they toast the world-class opera house. These receptions are designed to attract over 1,000 guests from across the Metroplex.

OnStage Gala
Saturday, November 7, 2009

Capping the Winspear Opening Festivities will be the distinct opportunity to celebrate from the stage as you enjoy an elegant dinner on the set of an opera. This major fund-raising event of the season will attract 500 guests for a black-tie evening that includes an intimate performance by one of the top sopranos in the world, Deborah Voigt. This event, coupled with the Winspear Opera House Opening Performance and Dinner, is chaired by Ms. Joyce Mitchell and will raise more than one million dollars to support the company’s transition to its new home.

Underwriting and ticket information will be available in the coming weeks. To discuss sponsorship opportunities, please contact Lori Rayfield, Corporate Sponsorship Manager, at 214-443-1060.
