The Dallas Opera Guild invites everyone in The Dallas Opera family to join the Guild and to participate actively in its numerous activities that support The Dallas Opera and contribute to its continuing growth as one of the country's finest opera companies. The new Winspear Opera House to open in 2009 in The Dallas Cultural Arts District makes this a memorable time for Guild members to attend and participate as a volunteer in events and activities described below. The Guilded Notes Newsletter and frequent mailings notify Guild members of coming special events.

The Dallas Opera Guild sponsors a Vocal Competition each year to provide young Texas adult winners with financial support to pursue their opera careers. The competition is free and open to the public. It will be held April 19, 2008. The 2007 competition awarded $19,000.00 to ten talented young singers. The School Performance Program introduces 4th through 8th grade students to a fully staged opera at the Music Hall. These performances allow some 12,000 North Texas area students to attend. Guild volunteers serve as docents and facilitators for this popular education program. Download Competition Application

Opera Insights provides an enriched opera experience to all who attend this popular Sunday afternoon event offered a week prior to opening night. The enlightening talks and panel discussions feature lead singers, conductors, directors, and The Dallas Opera staff, all of whom invite questions from the audience. A reception provided by Guild volunteers precedes the program. Opera Insights is held at Gooch Auditorium at UT Southwestern Medical Center.

Adopt an Artist is a program that welcomes visiting artists to our community. This much appreciated program provides host families for the artists to assure that their Dallas Opera experience and brief sojourn here are enjoyable...from airport arrival to departure. A similar service, Adopt a Singer, is a new volunteer opportunity to assist those young opera singers participating in The Dallas Opera Guild Vocal Competition.

The Dallas Opera Guild Boutique, located in the lobby area of the Music Hall, is the opera goer's main contact with a major Guild activity and the volunteers who staff the Boutique for each opera performance The Boutique offers a wide range of gift items, souvenirs, caps, and unique tee-shirts. All sales benefit The Dallas Opera.

The Guild also plans Opera Trips to other cities to attend operas, concerts, and special cultural events. On the local level, Special Events offer Guild members the opportunity to participate in arranged tours or visits associated with the arts in general.
